How do we proceed

  • Meeting with the dog

The first contact will take place in a neutral location, in order to avoid any kind of territorial behaviour, resources guarding etc.
In case the individual does not present this type of reaction, then we move on to his own place, so we can observe him in its own environment.
We target the unwanted behaviour - for both, in and out of the house - what and when it triggers it, therefore we can establish the conditions and the adequate means to work with the dog.

  • Consultation

The important step, define, control or eliminate the problematic behaviour. Based on Operant & Classical Conditioning, a positive reinforcement program and if necessary, the desensitisation and reconditioning. We always begin with one single person who will teach/re-educate the dog, for a few days (or weeks, it depends on the dog's individuality) and once the behaviour is established, the rest of the family can also get involved, but without improvising or deviating from the program.

  • Coaching

My instruction methods consist of 4 types of positive reinforcement, the continuous schedule - for concretise the new behaviour, the differential reinforcement, the differential reinforcement of incompatible behaviour and last but no least, the variable ratio schedule.
They are easy to practice and also imperative to be applied - without deviation - from all the family members.
Dogs, like humans, do mistakes during learning, by "trial and error" they actually learn and progress, thus we never punish them for these mistakes, we focus on what we want them to do, then we allow them the necessary time to succeed. As a result, the reprimands, verbal or physical, are not part of his education, hence he becomes a confident individual and happy to engage and interact with his human family.

Search-Dog Handler

It is important to provide mental stimulation to our pets and scentowork enrichment activities are a great choice. Scent detection, tracking, trailing, for dog trainers or enthusiasts who want to have fun with their dogs.

Desensitization and Counterconditioning - DSCC

These are two very common treatments, developed by psychologists to treat fears, anxiety, phobias and aggression – essentially any behavioural problem involving excitement or emotional reaction.
They are effective but complex. As far as animals concern, it consists of a patient training several times a day, a carefully planned, small steps progress.
It usually takes several months before results can be observed.

Its purpose is to eliminate or reduce the exaggerated emotional reactions, that an animal feels for something specific, other animals, kinds of people (like children or men in uniform, hats, umbrellas, bikes or cars etc), certain places or events, or specific noises.

The process of recondition, re-educate the animal in order to have a pleasant feeling and a normal reaction, to something he previously feared or did not like.

My approaching method is punishment/negation-free, the word “no” means nothing to the dog, apart from being emotionally charged.
Moreover it doesn’t teach him what to do, therefore we have to be clear with our demands, the “no” needs to be replaced by a specific cue.
Dogs have a consecutive way of learning, first of all they read our body language and secondary they listen to us, therefore we have to be synchronised – body and verbal cues – in order to simplify our inter-communication.

Every day of their lives matters

Offering a better life to our animals is not a luxury but a necessity!
